We have expanded our Orbit Winch™ range with the introduction of E2+ Two- and Three-Speed Electric models in 45QT and 50QT sizes, strengthening our offering for larger keelboats, performance cruisers and high-load sailing applications.
Building on the Orbit Winch™ platform that received a DAME Award in 2023, the E2+ range integrates electric assistance into a compact, purpose-designed system, combining manual functionality with powered operation. The result is a flexible solution suited to modern sailing demands, including short-handed operation and efficient sail handling under load.
The E2+ winches are available in both two-speed and three-speed configurations, allowing sailors and owners to match performance characteristics to specific applications. Three-speed models introduce a mechanically engaged first gear, enabling faster line recovery during manoeuvres while maintaining controlled power for trimming in higher-load conditions.
Power delivery is managed through a precisely matched gearbox and a European-engineered, series-wound motor, designed specifically for winch use. The system delivers smooth, consistent performance, with optimised power ratios across operating speeds to support repeatable trimming under sustained load.
A key feature of the E2+ system is its integrated control and protection architecture. The motor incorporates an onboard control box and intelligent monitoring system, removing the need for external control units and simplifying installation. Comprehensive built-in protections includes overload and thermal protection, low-voltage detection, reverse polarity protection and accidental start prevention. A torque-limited gearbox provides additional protection for internal winch components.
To support refit and upgrade markets, there are E2+ Power Kits that convert existing manual 45QT and 50QT Orbit Winches™ to electric operation. Available in 12V and 24V, the kits allow owners to add electric assistance while retaining their existing winch investment.
