Lisa's discipline and determination are personality traits to admire. Her hard work has led to many successes having begun sailing as a nine-year-old with her brother. Sailing had always been a family affair, with Darminan training alongside her teammate and cousin Jason Waterhouse at Middle Harbour Sailing Club for several years. The duo had a successful year in 2016 winning the Rio Test Event and finishing second at the World Championships. Darmanin was also named Australian female sailor of the year. Their Olympic debut at Rio in the Nacra 17 class was also successful where they took home the silver medal and this year finishing 5th in Tokyo.

Jason grew up on boats spending four years exploring remote parts of the world with his mum, dad and sister and since then has continued strengthening his passion for being on the water. Jason originally started competing alongside his sister, then joined forces with his cousin Lisa Darmanin in 2008. Together the pair earned a silver medal in Brazil at the Rio Games and finished 5th at the Tokyo Games. Jason also had the chance to join the Australian team for the inaugural SailGP championship campaign in Season 1 as flight controller & tactician where they went on to win the first-ever SailGP championship. Waterhouse returns to the Australia SailGP Team in the same role for Season 2 and the crew is anything but complacent as it looks to repeat as champions. Jason has headed off to Aarhus, Denmark to continue sailing with the SailGP team.
